Spider Cake Pops

Spider Cake Pops with the Eyeballs Behind

Vertically Set Legs

Horizontally Set Legs
This cake pop was really quick to make and it was just another idea for Halloween!  I just dipped the cake pop in chocolate and then pushed in 8 pieces of thin licorice for the legs of the spider.  I made 2 different types: 1) vertically lined up legs and 2) horizontally lined up legs... I do not know which one looks better and the vote was split with my family!  Once I put the legs in, I refrigerated them to let them harden and then I assembled the eyes which are short pieces of thick black licorice topped off with a mini m & m.  I then took the pops out of the fridge and 'glued' the eyes on with melted chocolate.... VOILA... spider cake pops with 'bulging' eyes!

Blood Shot Eyeball Cake Pops

Halloween is a great time for making treats because there is so many fun ideas.  I was in our local discount store and saw these jelly lifesaver candies so I knew I could do something with them.  I just made the basic cake pop, dipped it in white melts and while the white melts were soft I put a black cake confetti and then topped it off with the gummy lifesaver.  I then refrigerated them to harden the melts and then I melted red melts and piped them onto the pop to make the eyeballs look blood shot.  If I would make these again, I would have cut the candies in half so that the colour part of the eye was not so thick!  Perfect for any Halloween treat.

Spider Web Cake Pops

I was making cake pops for my kids and then I had a few leftovers so I decided to try to make some spider webs ones.  Not perfect, but they definitely look like a web.  All I did was dip the pop, refrigerate it to let it harden and then I piped the web on with melted chocolate in a ziploc with a corner clipped off.  My white melts were not thin enough so you can tell that it is a little too thick on the ball but it still works!

Turkey Cake Pops

Turkey Cake Pop
These cake pops are adorable.  Thanks to the amazing Bakerella, I got the idea for these cake pops but I did tweak them to make them my own.  I first assembled the turkey heads.  The turkey heads were chocolate covered strawberries and then I used melted chocolate to glue on half an orange M & M for the beak and a maple leaf shaped cake confetti for the waddle!  I then made a basic cake ball, dipped it in melted chocolate and added pretzel pieces for legs and caramel candy corn for the tail feathers.  I then placed them in the fridge and let them harden.  After they were hard, I used melted chocolate again as glue to attach the assembled turkey head.  Labour intensive but worth it!

Leaf Shaped Cake Balls

Chocolate Covered Leaf Cake Ball

This is what I made for the first day of fall for my son's class last year.  The end product was kind of messy but they still tasted great, according to his teacher!  I made strawberry cake ball mix and instead of rolling them into a ball, I used rolled out the batter like cookie dough and used my leaf cookie cutter.  I then put them in the freezer to get them really cold and dipped them in melted chocolate.  I just used my fingers to dip them, which was one of the biggest problems, everything started to melt and it made a bit of a mess.  After I dipped the leaves, I sprinkled them with orange sugar to represent the changing colours of leaves!

Beach Ball Cake Pops

Beach Ball Cake Pops

The most recent post was my snorkel cake pops and this one is my beach ball cake pops, also for my son's birthday.  These do not look as 'smooth' as my other pops but they still get the point across.  I made the basic cake pop, dipped them in my leftover melted white chocolate tinted with copper gel colour, I put them in the fridge and then I piped teal tinted melts and then red candy melts.  After I piped each colour on I did put the pops in the fridge to set the colours.  For his party I am displaying the snorkel and beach ball cake pops together and I think the kids will love it!

Snorkel Swimmer Cake Pops

My Snorkelling Swimming Cake Pops

These cake pops are for my son's birthday party this weekend.  We are having an outdoor water fun party so I looked on-line but I could not find any ideas for cake pops so I created these ones.  I first made the basic cake pop (see bakerella.com) and then I covered the entire pop in melted white chocolate that was tinted with copper colour gel and a tiny bit of golden yellow gel.  I put them in the fridge to harden and then when I took them out I put the top of the pop in melted chocolate and textured it with my fingers to make it look like hair.  I put them back in the fridge to harden.  The last part, the mask and snorkel, was the time consuming part but it looks so cute.... I used a paint brush to put a blob of white melted chocolate in the shape of the mask, placed a black cake confetti dot for each eye and then took a short piece of licorice and circled it around the blob.  I had to hold it until the chocolate melted.  I then painted a thin strip of melted chocolate along the head where I then placed the snorkel.... Voila... a snorkelling, swimming cake pop!

Bald Eagle Cake Pops

Bald Eagle Cake Pop

I have made a few cake pops in the last few days and I had some leftover dough so I looked on-line and tried to come up with an idea.  I went to familyfun.com and saw these eagle treats but they were marshmallows covered in white chocolate and coconut and they were sitting on top of a dark cookie!  I decided to make the eagle head with a cake ball and put it on a stick!  I made the ball, dipped it in melted white chocolate, rolled it in coconut and put a cashew in it for the nose!  I then put a dab of white chocolate on it and put on a black cake confetti dot for the eyes.  I made it, called my daughter into the room and asked her what she thought it was.... she said, "It is a bald eagle."  She is only 5 and she said that with no prompting so it must actually look like one!

Red/White/Blue Stars and Stripes Cake Pops

Star and Stripes - Red/White/Blue Cake Pop

This time of year is a great time to make star treats, red/white/blue treats and flag treats: we have Memorial Day, Flag Day (tomorrow) and July 4th.  I have been having fun creating fun snack and treat ideas.  For these cake pops I used a small star cookie cutter (I used a smaller one than I did for my previous star cake pops) and I rolled out the cake ball dough really thickly.  I put each star on a stick, dipped it in melting white chocolate and then sprinkled the stars with coloured sugar.  You could sprinkle the stars any way you would want but I decided to try to make stripes.  If you would use an entire cake box you would get a lot of these since they are smaller than your average cake ball/pop.

Butterfly Cake Pops

Butterfly Cake Pop

This is an example of another treat that I am making for my kid's recital this weekend!  I just made the basic cake pop, as seen on bakerella.com, but instead of making the dough into balls I made them into cylinders.  After the shape was set in the fridge with the stick, I dipped it in chocolate, added licorice sticks for the antennae and added heart marshmallows for the wings.

10th Anniversary Cake Pops

4 Different "10" Year Annivesary Cake Pops

I live in a small town in WA and we are proud to be part of Power and Grace, a local dance studio in our town of 4000 people.  We have a recital every year and it is the 10th anniversary this year.  At the recital the owner sells snacks to help raise money so kids can go to gymnastics camp every summer.  I volunteered to make cake pops for the occasion.  I made 4 different decorated cake pops.  I used the basic cake pop design but flattened one side so that I could put the "10" on it easily.  I dipped the pops in chocolate, as usual, and for the pearl and confetti pop I placed the parts of the "10" on it before the chocolate dried.  For the non-pareil and sugar pop I dipped the pop in chocolate, put it in the fridge to harden the chocolate and then I painted the "10" on with chocolate and sprinkled it with sugar and/or non-pareils!  A small thing that I can make to help kids from our small community benefit from a gymnastics camp!  i have not decided what design I will use for June 11th, the night of the recital, but most people I ask like the 'pearl' design the best!

Heart Flower Cake Pops

Side View of Red Pop
Top View of Lilac Pop

I was in a store after Valentine's Day and happened upon a bag of heart shaped Gobstoppers that were on sale, I picked them up knowing that I could do something with them.  Four heart shaped candies make a perfect flower shape.  These cute cake pops can be for many occasions....Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, A Garden Party or just because!  The centre is a mini jawbreaker and then the flower is made from 4 heart shaped Gobstoppers but you could use any heart shaped candy!

Graduation Cap Cake Pops

Graduation Cap Cake Pop

I had some leftover dough from making cake pops for a fundraiser I was involved in so I decided to try out some different cake pops and take some pictures.  I went through my pantry and found some Ghirardelli squares of chocolate and went on-line and came up with my graduation cap cake pops.  I did not shape the pops into a ball, instead they are a cylinder.  I put the stick into the pop as usual and then put the chocolate square on top, but put it on upside down so the lettering on the chocolate is not on top of the pop.  If you look at the pics you will notice that I have three different flavours of the squares since that is all I had in the house.  The middle section are peppermint bark and actually have some white chocolate on them also.  Then for the tassel I used some mini jawbreakers (I would have used yellow but I only had one left so I used orange) and banana saltwater taffy rolled out and cut into strips.  Not perfect but great for any graduation party or festivity!

Flower Cake Pops

Flower Cake Pop
We are having our big fundraiser for Young Life tomorrow and I wanted to help out by making cake pops to sell.  Our entertainment night and auction is our big money maker to help kids go to camp.  I decided to make these flower cake pops to sell tomorrow night.  I just made the basic cake pop and then I used a mini jawbreaker as the middle of the flower and Mike & Ike's for the petals!  Simple to make and nice and 'springy.'  Perfect for a spring treat!

Fairy Wand Star Cake Pops

Chocolate Star Cake Pop
White Star Cake Pop

I am part of a group called "Operation Fairy Godmother (OFG)" in my small Western Washington town.  OFG is a group of woman who have gotten together to provide a prom 'experience' for girls who would otherwise not be able to go.  We have dresses, shoes, clutches, jewelry, hair, make-up, undergarments and encouragement and love to provide for all girls who have applied.  This Saturday is our shopping day.  This means that the girls participating in our prom experience get to choose their dresses and everything else this weekend.... I am in charge of hospitality.  I wanted to make 'fairy wands' for the girls so I made white and chocolate star cake pops.  I just rolled out the dough and I used a small star cookie cutter to make the shape, dipped them in chocolate and then sprinkled them with a little fairy dust (aka coloured sugar).

Pirate Flag Cake Pops

Pirate Flag Cake Pop

These cake pops were an experiment that worked ok, but more difficult than your basic round cake pop.  Instead of rolling into balls before dipping in chocolate, I rolled out the cake dough mixture and cut out rectangular shapes.  I also used popsicle sticks instead of round lollipop sticks.  Fortunately, I still had some leftover skull and crossbone candy from Halloween to make the flag design.  If you do not have these candies, I am not sure what you would use for the flag.  I was trying to rack my brain to figure it out but I just could not come up with anything.  I also wanted the chocolate to be black and I added a lot of black gel food colouring but there was no changing it... you would have to use black candy melts if you want black because the chocolate was staying brown!  I had a lot of casualties as I was making these.  If I ever do 'flat' cake pops again I will make them thicker and smaller.  They just kept breaking off of the sticks and it was getting frustrating at times.  I was happy with the end result but it was an arduous process to get there.
