Butterfly Cake Pops

Butterfly Cake Pop

This is an example of another treat that I am making for my kid's recital this weekend!  I just made the basic cake pop, as seen on bakerella.com, but instead of making the dough into balls I made them into cylinders.  After the shape was set in the fridge with the stick, I dipped it in chocolate, added licorice sticks for the antennae and added heart marshmallows for the wings.

Butterfly Cookie on a Stick

Butterfly Cookie on a Stick

I am not a huge fan of these cookies, but I decided to post them anyway!  I started off with a 'roll' of brown coloured cookie dough on a popsicle stick.  My husband told me it looked a terd:)  I baked them and when they were in the oven they spread out a lot, as sugar cookies always do.  I took them out of the oven, let them cool and then used melted chocolate to 'glue' the marshmallow hearts and licorice sticks for the wings and antennae.

Butterfly Cookies

I wanted to add another blog post so I just decided to whip up another sugar cookie dough to try to make more butterfly cookies.  I just made drop cookies and put them on the cookie tray, flattened them slightly and then put a 'rod' of  brown coloured cookie in the middle of the dough, which will become the body of the butterfly.  Put the tray in the oven and cook as usual.  Once the cookie has cooled I 'glued' on heart marshmallows and/or conversation heart candies to be the wings and licorice sticks for antennae.  As always, I use melted chocolate as the glue.  I like the cookies with the marshmallow wings better.

Marshmallow and Chocolate Butterflies

A "bunch" of chocolate and marshmallow butterflies
We were making s'mores this weekend and then at our awesome liquidation store, Grocery Outlet, I saw these cute little pink heart marshmallows.   I bought the marshmallows because I knew I could do something with them.  When I came home, I came up with an idea as I looked at the chocolate that was still sitting on our counter - butterflies!  For one of the butterflies I used a Hershey chocolate and for the other four I used 1/4 piece of our World Famous Chocolates that are still leftover from our kid's leftover fundraising chocolate sales!  All I did was take a piece of chocolate, 'paint' melting chocolate along the side of the piece, put the heart marshmallows in place and set in the fridge to harden.  Then, I put 2 chocolate 'blobs' of 'paint' on the top side of the chocolate piece and placed 2 licorice sticks to be an antennae.  I put some eyes on some of them but I think they look better without!

Heart Flower Cake Pops

Side View of Red Pop

I was in a store after Valentine's Day and happened upon a bag of heart shaped Gobstoppers that were on sale, I picked them up knowing that I could do something with them.  Four heart shaped candies make a perfect flower shape.  These cute cake pops can be for many occasions....Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, A Garden Party or just because!  The centre is a mini jawbreaker and then the flower is made from 4 heart shaped Gobstoppers but you could use any heart shaped candy!

Heart Shaped Valentine's Pancakes

Heart Pancakes!

For Valentine's breakfast I just made some pancake batter and put it in 2 separate bowls.  To one bowl I added pink gel food colouring and to the other I added red gel colour.  Just use a small spoon so you can control the spread of the pancake and put a small heart of pink or red batter in the middle and then the alternate colour for the outside of the pancake.  Another quick and simple way to make a 'fun' meal.  In my family, pancakes are not only breakfast but also dinner food!

Heart Shaped Sandwich

Heart shaped sandwich for my kid's lunch!
For Valentine's Day for my son's lunch I made a fun little sandwich.  He has a salami and spinach sandwich on whole grain breads everyday so all I did was cut it in a heart shape with a cookie cutter.  Super easy to do but just another way to remind my kids that I love them very much!

Valentine's Dinner

Pink alfredo sauce, heart shaped meatballs, heart noodles, red peppers and tomatoes!

This was an impromptu dinner for Valentine's Day.  Hearts...so much fun and an easy shape to create!  I just used my basic meatloaf recipe so you can do what you want with the meat but just place it on the grill in a heart shape.  It does change shape a little bit as it cooks so really exaggerate the heart lobes so that you can tell it is a heart after it is cooked.  I bought some heart shaped noodles but you can also add food colouring to the boiling water for noodles and make red or pink noodles.  I just used a basic alfredo sauce from a jar and added pink food colouring, it looks a little toxic but my kids loved it and it does not change the taste of the alfredo.  Then, to make a well-roudned meal, I added some red peppers and tomatoes.... why?  It is V-Day, we need red and pink food.
